25 years now …

Posted in Uncategorized at 10:39 pm by Jeff

Who would have thought it? Twenty-five year ago  we were seniors in high school.

I went to a reunion tonight for the my wife’s high school – Perkins High School in Sandusky, which celebrated it 50th anniversary this year – and it got me thinking about good ol’ Calvert High School. And, it also got me thinking about our class and how we should celebrate our 25th reunion.

Our 20th reunion was a good time and it’ll certainly be hard to beat it. But, if you have any ideas, leave ‘em hear or drop me an email.

CHS alumni note

Posted in Uncategorized at 9:52 am by Jeff

Hey all:

I just got the following e-mail from Mike Baltzell, Calvert’s director of development.

Dear CHS Alumni:

By way of introduction, my name is Mike Baltzell, Director of  Development, Calvert Catholic Schools. Because of your willingness to sign up with the Harris Connect Alumni Directory survey, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you and to keep you all abreast of what’s happening within our school system.

While we are truly fulfilling our Mission Statement, it is also a very challenging time. The question that I get often asked is, “are we in trouble?” And the answer is a resounding NO!

But in order to put our schools on long term financial footing, increase enrollment and insure that Catholic education as we know it today will be around for generations to come, we must act now. Thus the underlying basis for kicking off our Endowment Campaign, Vision 2010, whose goal is to raise $10.0M by the end of the year 2010.

By issuance of this e-mail, I want to reconnect with you all, verify that the e-mails are correct and let you know what we are up to.

Wherever you go, whatever you do, know you will always be a part of the Calvert family, in our thoughts and prayers.

Be safe, God bless.

Mike

I’m back … for now

Posted in Uncategorized at 12:32 am by Jeff

OK, OK, OK … I’m terribly sorry I haven’t been keeping up with this blog thing. Life, you know, it gets busy at times.anyhoo … Life has been pretty good here in Vermilion. Wife and kids are good. I haven’t got back to Tiffin for a bit, though I hear the court house has been all the rage in that part of the world. (I, frankly, always thought it was a pretty darn ugly building.)So, I’ve been meaning to ask and hopefully someone can weigh in on the latest with the school consolidation, as in Calvert, St. Joe and St. Mary school? Did it happen? Did it work out OK?  What else is happening in Tiffin? Any news to report? Andy Collett … you still out there? You staying out of trouble? Deanna … got anything to report? Nick? Aaron?Anyway … I’ll try to check in occasionally and maybe get this thing rolling again.Jeff

Hey all …

I know, I’m kind of a lame blog master, but, well … you know, life gets busy.
Just watched the movie “Invincible” and had a bit of a flash back to the days at St. Joe’s amd the ’70s. Good flick, by the way.
Tomorrow, of course, is Super Bowl Sunday, the holiest sports holidays. Don’t know about you, but I’m rooting for the Colts. (Frankly, I wanted the Saints until the Bears ruined that party.)
Anyhoo … Hope things are well for everyone. Haven’t been back to T-town lately. Let me know how things are … any news from Calvert?

greetings all …

Sorry … it’s been awhile since I’ve posted. I’ve been horribly busy.
Anyhoo … I hope you all had a nice Thanksgiving and have begun your Christmas shopping. I’m sure I’ll make it back to Tiffin for the holiday and maybe I’ll even stop at the ol’ Clover Club for a cold one.

Hey all …
Some photos from the Friday night gathering at the Clover Club.

Ron Shook’s wife explains that his former classmates aren’tall that kooky afterall.

Hey, who’s that? It’s Pat Schall (Calvert student turned Columbian grad) with Deana Heminger, Shelly G. and Aaron Smith.

Amy Clouse and Steve Hoffman smile for the camera. A little gossip about Huffs: He’s become a jabberbox.

The ringleaders of the Class of ’86: Nick and Aaron. Together they went on to run the city of Tiffin. I guess we knew it would happen all along.

OK … that’s all the pics I’m going to push to the blog tonight. I’m tired and I want to go to bed. I’ll get more up in the next day or two.

their shoes on.

Andy Collet and Amy Clouse create the banner that will

remind us in five years who showed up and who didn’t.

OK … that’s all the pics I’m posting for now. I’ll try to get more.

What a weekend!!!

Posted in The reunion at 7:59 pm by Jeff

Hey all …

I think everyone who attended the reunion will agree: What a great time.

Brad and Cass, you guys did a wonderful job organizing the reunion … and Brad, you went above and beyond the call of duty.

Deana, your party last night was great … Thanks for inviting us into your beautiful home.
Nick … Sorry I wasn’t able to make it to your home today. I’m sure you guys had a wonderful time …If you got any pictures, make sure to share a few of them.

Speaking of which … when I get some time, I’ll be sure to sift through mine from the weekend and post ‘em to the blog. Cass, I know you and your wife got some pics … Please, share ‘em. If you’d like, shoot me an e-mail with them attached.

As for the rest of you … I had a truly wonderful time seeing you and catching up. I don’t know about the rest of you, I had so many memories knockin’ around this weekend. It was really, really cool.

Bally, Pablo, Pol, Zack … you were the topic of many conversations. (All good, of course.) Sorry you couldn’t be there, but we made the best of your absences.

I plan to keep this blog — or some variation of it — alive for the foreseeable future. I’ll also work on my e-mail list. I have about 25 names and addresses, and I’ll try to get e-mail addresses for the rest you.

Meantime … Again, it was a really special weekend. I’m happy to have seen so many of you.

Breaking news!!!

Posted in The reunion at 9:45 pm by Jeff

I just got an e-mail from one Steve Hoffman … He’s planning to attend Friday night festivities at the Clover Club, though he won’t be able to make the reunion Saturday.

He said that Dave Kennedy, originally booked for a trip to Iraq, will attend Friday, as well. This is news to me.

Dave … please confirm this rumor.  Hope you are, indeed, going to be present. If so, put a cold one on my tab.

Scott Whitmer …

Stacks,
No never made it on tour with Van Halen, however there was that thing with Bananarama but thats another story. Any ways alive and well in McComb Ohio. Carpenter by trade, parents still live in Tiffin. So does my son Cody who is fifteen and attending Columbian. Was married for twelve years to a gal that graduated from Hopewell. Have a great girlfriend (Heather) whom I’ve been with for three years now. As luck would have it, I will be attending the reunion after all. Doug’s wife will not be able to attend, so I will be her fill in. See everyone there. Scott Whitmer
